Sunset Boutique — Demo

Sunset Boutique is a demo for a Women’s boutique that sells both apparel and makeup. The direction is a feminine, sweet, chic, West Coast vibe that seeks to lean into what works for this type of brand. The design is clean, simple, and radiates warmth in cool fashion. The cozy colors of the sunset introduce some of the shades that would be found later in the brand’s palette. Overall, the goal was to capture the feeling of freshness that a successful self-care routine gives in a way that feels familiar and inviting, as well as new and luxurious, but still affordable.

The mood board we designed showcases the forward-thinking energy that Sunset Boutique seeks to feature as a cornerstone of what makes the brand great, representing a multitude of different types of people, making it the sort of brand that has something for everyone, no matter their background. Whether it’s heavier makeup looks, or more of a natural look, Sunset Boutique wants you to look and feel glamorous on and off camera, whether the mood is serious or fun. The romantic, colorful nature of the sunset serves as a core to the brand’s identity.

Sunset Boutique’s color palette, as mentioned, took a significant deal of inspiration from the sunset, especially the images found in the mood board and alongside the logo design. The sunset gradients would be a major element in designing products for Sunset Boutique as a brand. A majority of the color palette is taken directly from the luxe lushness of the sunset. A gray, earthy tone was also added to bring the sunset down to earth, but also capture the inevitable darkness of clouds at sunset. It may not seem like it at first glance, but nature is the primary influencer for this brand’s color palette.

Lastly, an alternative logo design for Sunset Boutique featuring a wave was created, as opposed to the six color palette colors being represented by dots underneath the logo text. The wave design highlights the beachy, West Coast inspiration for the brand. Against the white background, the wave really pops. Overall, we felt that both the six dots design and the wave design were appropriate as final designs for the Sunset Boutique brand. The demo was an enjoyable one in terms of bringing a brand like Sunset Boutique into the spotlight, and it makes a case for why Sunset Boutique could make for a brand to be truly excited about and to follow.
